When a visitor rings the bell or - by motion detection - just approaches your porch, you get a push message to your smartphone. You can then start a video call and ask the courier to leave the package to your neighbors or tell the sales representative that you are not interested - and do not need to open the door. Since you can respond from anywhere in the world, provided you have a smartphone connected to the Internet, it increases the security of your home because it looks like you really are at home.
